Evolution gets third Season
X-Men: Evolution has been picked up for a third season by Kids' WB!, The Continuum has learned.
Thirteen episodes of X-Men: Evolution have been ordered for the third season, pushing the series' episode total to 43. Thirteen were produced for the first season, and 17 are being produced for the current season.
Producer Boyd Kirkland and story editor Greg Johnson will return for the next season of the show, which is produced at Film Roman.
"Kids' WB! is very excited about Season 3 being an even more astonishing experience," Marvel Studios' Craig Kyle told The Continuum.
Seeds for the third season will be planted in upcoming episodes of the show.

Captain America to appear on Evolution
Captain America will appear in an episode of Kids' WB!'s X-Men: Evolution next month.
The episode, "Operation: Rebirth," is written by Bob Forward from a story by Greg Johnson and Boyd Kirkland. It is directed by Gary Graham.
"Something very dangerous has been stolen from a highly secured government facility, and there are strong suspicions that a mutant was the perpetrator," Johnson told The Continuum about the episode. "So Wolverine is approached in a very unofficial capacity, not only because he's the most capable of finding the thief, but because he has a past with the stolen object. A past that stretches back to his association with a most unique soldier, the famed war hero, Captain America."
Captain America is the first super-hero who isn't from the X-Men Universe to appear in the series.
"We still maintain the idea that, for Evolution, there are no known super-heroes out there saving the world with amazing abilities," Johnson said. "With this story, we wanted to flirt with that rule without breaking it. Boyd was the one who first suggested to me that Cap might be a good choice because there is an established connection between him and Wolverine. It also helps that their association is tied to a military past, where secrecy is the order.
"But this wouldn't be an Evolution episode without the involvement of some of our young X-Men, so you can expect to see two of the students recruited to his cause."
The story marks the return of Forward to X-Men: Evolution. He was a story editor on the show for the first season.
"He'd been tied up producing another series (Dan Dare - Pilot of the Future) and when he became available, I quickly hired him for the job," Johnson said. "No one handles action stories better than Bob Forward."

On Angel's Wings
Angel will be introduced to Kids' WB!'s X-Men: Evolution on Saturday, Dec. 15 with an episode called "On Angel's Wings."
The episode is written by X-Men: Evolution producer Boyd Kirkland and directed by Frank Paur.
"It has Christmas as the backdrop of the story," Kirkland told The Continuum. "It's not the focus of the story, but it's a holiday setting."
Angel's appearance means that the original five X-Men - Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman and Angel - have appeared on X-Men: Evolution. There will likely be more guest-stars in the future, but don't look for characters like Spider-Man or the Avengers to appear.
"Pretty much, we're sticking with the X-Men Universe for the most part," Kirkland said. "My basic feeling is to not necessarily imply that there's a whole other universe of super-heroes out there, outside of the mutant universe, at this point. There may be some exceptions to that, but they will be logical exceptions.
"I'm not saying that we'll never get into that territory, but for now, that's our preference, just to keep it within the X-Men Universe with the idea of mutants and people with mutant abilities. Most of the stuff that is going is stuff that people will recognize as coming out of the X-Men Universe."

In other X-Men news, Kids' WB! also announced that a repeat of "Beast of Bayville" will air on Saturday, Dec. 8.
This Saturday's episode will be a repeat of "Power Surge," with a new episode, "Joyride," scheduled for Dec. 1.

Info on African Storm
"African Storm," a new episode of X-Men: Evolution, airs this Saturday on Kids' WB!.
The episode is written by Nick DuBois and directed by Gary Graham.
Here's the official logline for the show:
"Storm's state of mind is questioned when she believes menacing shadows are haunting her. Are they for real, or are these ghosts from her past?"
"Storm has a multilayered history, and one of the more interesting elements to her life is the time she spent in Africa," X-Men: Evolution story editor Greg Johnson told The Continuum. "In this episode, we get to see some of that past catching up to her in a most eerie way."
Last Saturday's episode of X-Men: Evolution was second among broadcast competition in the ratings for Boys 6-11 and Kids 6-11. The trailed Pokemon in both categories.

Info on Adrift
X-Men: Evolution story editor Greg Johnson wrote "Adrift," this Saturday's episode airing on Kids' WB!.
The episode, which is directed by Steve Gordon, features Scott Summers and his brother Alex.
"As established in The Cauldron, Scott has a long-lost brother, separated since early childhood and only recently reunited. It stands to reason that, whenever possible, they'd want to spend time together," Johnson told The Continuum. " So Scott heads to Hawaii to be with Alex, where, with an escalation of problems, they must ultimately face some serious conditions at sea alone.
" That's not to say the other characters aren't involved in the drama, because they are. Even the new recruits. Overall, between Steve's great direction, and (producer) Boyd Kirkland's dedication to quality in handling all the rest, it's a standout episode. Not to mention the animation is extremely well handled."
In other X-Men: Evolution news, last Saturday's episode ranked as the No. 1 broadcast program for the morning in Kids 2-11 (4.0 rating/15 share), Kids 6-11 (4.5/19) and Boys 2-11 (5.3/19).

Info on Beast of Bayville
Beast of Bayville
"Beast of Bayville," a new episode of X-Men: Evolution, will air Saturday on Kids' WB!.
The episode is written by William Cluverius, and directed by Gary Graham.
"In this episode, we get to learn a little bit more about Hank McCoy, and how he makes a personal connection with one of the X-Men," story editor Greg Johnson told The Continuum. "For McCoy fans, this is one not to miss."
"It's a very strong show," Marvel Studios' Craig Kyle told The Continuum. "I think people will be impressed. It's our most intense episode yet."

More on Fun & Games
Greg Johnson, story editor of X-Men: Evolution, told The Continuum that this Saturday's episode on Kids' WB! will be a change of pace.
"Fun and Games" was written by Brian Swenlin and directed by Frank Paur. It will contain multiple villains and a revelation.
"We've tried to mix up the season with both lighter and heavier shows, and following 'Power Surge' and the whole father issue in 'Bada Bing, Bada Boom,' a lighter one definitely felt needed," Johnson told The Continuum. "That's not to say we ignore the drama, though. There's plenty of weight to this episode. But it's more of an ensemble story, where several characters share the focus, and is probably one of the better-animated ones we've seen. Frank's direction is terrific."
Here's the show's official logline, provided to The Continuum by Johnson:
"When Professor X must be away, the kids do what any normal kids would do. They throw a party at the mansion. But trouble arises when one special guest uses his computer skills to hack into Cerebro and the Danger Room."

Paur is one of the three directors regularly used by producer Boyd Kirkland in both the first and second seasons. They also helped establish the look of the show.
"We want a personality-driven show, with action and adventure into the episodes," Paur told The Continuum. "Compelling stories and things that are contemporary for people to understand, instead of characters just showing up."
The "Fun and Games" episode features multiple villains, including at least two who have appeared on the series already.

New character addition to Evolution!
Hank McCoy is joining the cast of Kids' WB!'s X-Men: Evolution beginning with this Saturday's episode.
Hank will be an adult in the show.
Story editor Greg Johnson provided The Continuum with the following description of Hank's character in the series:
"Hank possesses a generous heart, a poet's spirit, a genius's intellect, and a pro-wrestler's body. Having graduated Bayville High years ago as a star athlete, Hank has since pursued a career in teaching, and has just recently signed on at Bayville as the new chemistry teacher. But he's also serving as the school's head coach, this double duty allowing him to do what he loves most in the world - work with kids. It fills him with passion. But Hank also fears all of his progress, his dreams, his ambitions, will vanish if ever his desperate secret is revealed.
"Hank is a mutant. His entire life, he's been forced to deal with the fact that he possess keen animal instincts, large powerful hands... and a feral savagery that he's only managed to control through sheer willpower. When he does feel his blood starting to boil, he's able to keep a lid on it by reciting the calming passages of Shakespeare."
Hank's first appearance will be in the "Power Surge" episode. Look for more details on that episode soon here in The Continuum.

X-Men: Evolution Scheduling
X-Men: Evolution's second-season premiere on Kids' WB! on Saturday will be the "Growing Pains" episode.
"Growing Pains" was intended to be the first episode for the second season, although it was temporarily replaced as Kids WB! has juggled and re-juggled its lineup since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.
The Oct. 6 episode of X-Men: Evolution will now be "Bada Bing, Bada Boom," the show's 16th episode, originally intended to be the third shown this season.
"Power Surges," the 15th episode and the intended second for the second season, was at one point going to lead off the second season, but now is unscheduled.
Kids' WB! has been careful with its programming since the terrorists attacks, postponing its "Big Premiere" Saturday two weeks and monitoring content of its shows.

X-Men: Evolution Update
Edward Kelly will be the new principal at Bayville High when the second season of X-Men: Evolution starts on Kids' WB! on Saturday.
Kelly is loosely based on Senator Robert Kelly from the X-Men comic books.
Here's how the character is described:
"Edward Kelly is a school administrator who's clearly destined for politics. He can 'read' people well, and has the knack of convincing others to embrace his point of view. Though a bit of a windbag, he is a man of high standards who tenaciously defends his position. That passion wins him a lot of praise.
"Once he moves on from Bayville, he will establish himself as a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. And once the world is made aware that mutants walk the Earth, he will promote legislation such as the Mutant Registration Act, requiring those with powers of genetic origin to disclose their abilities to the government.
"But for now, he's just a principal in a small town, determined to have a positive impact on the students he's in charge of."
Kelly is replacing Raven Darkholme (aka Mystique) as the school's principal. Mystique is missing entering the second season.
Principal Kelly's voice is done by Dale Wilson.
X-Men: Evolution kicks off with the "Growing Pains" episode on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (ET). Look for more news on X-Men: Evolution this week here in The Continuum.
